Case study: Seasonal Greetings for Project Roy Preston

Roy Preston, representing the Project Jay Preservation Group, reached out with a request for a Christmas greeting cartoon for this club of early Land Rover Discovery enthusiasts.

The challenge was to create something that would resonate with Discovery owners while capturing the Christmas spirit – something that felt both automotive and seasonal, suitable for sharing across their Facebook community.

Client: Roy Preston, Project Jay Preservation Group
Project: Christmas greeting cartoon for preservation group members
Timeline: 3 weeks before Christmas
Deliverable: Digital artwork for social media sharing

The Creative Solution

I proposed a scene featuring Roy’s own vehicle, a representative early Discovery, driving through a snowy countryside setting with curious reindeer watching from the roadside. The composition includes snow-covered fir trees creating a perfect Christmas backdrop, while maintaining the rugged, outdoors spirit that Discovery owners love.

The cartoon captures the essence of what makes these vehicles special – their ability to handle any terrain, even in winter conditions – while adding a touch of Christmas magic with the reindeer encounter. The setting suggests the kind of countryside adventures that Discovery enthusiasts cherish.

Roy’s personalized message was incorporated at the bottom: “WISHING A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OUR PJPG MEMBERS & FOLLOWERS OF THE PROJECT JAY PRESERVATION GROUP FACEBOOK PAGE. – ROY PRESTON”

The Process

Initial Contact: Roy requested Christmas greeting cartoon for group members
Concept Development: Proposed Discovery in snowy landscape with reindeer
Sketch Options: Provided rough sketches from different angles for Roy’s selection
Design Execution: Created detailed winter scene with authentic Discovery details
Message Integration: Added Roy’s personalized Christmas message
Delivery: Supplied social media-ready digital artwork

The Result

The cartoon successfully captured both the Christmas spirit and the essence of the Discovery community. The image provided the Project Jay Preservation Group with a unique, branded Christmas greeting that celebrates their shared passion while bringing festive cheer to members and followers.

Why This Project Worked

Community Focus: Designed specifically for sharing within the preservation group’s Facebook community
Authentic Vehicle: Featured a genuine early Discovery registration, adding credibility for enthusiasts
Seasonal Relevance: Winter setting emphasized the Discovery’s all-weather capabilities
Brand Integration: Incorporated the full group name and Facebook page reference
Shareable Format: Digital delivery perfect for social media distribution
Festive Charm: Reindeer added whimsical Christmas element without overshadowing the automotive focus

This project demonstrates how custom automotive cartoons can serve community-building purposes, helping specialized groups like preservation societies create branded content that strengthens member connections while celebrating their shared automotive passion during special occasions.
