Case Study: A Thank You Gift with Automotive Heritage
The Challenge
Andrew Fawkes approached me with a unique request: he wanted to create a special thank you gift for Steve Ellis and his wife Pam, who had organized an incredible car tour across Europe to Italy and back for the Aston Martin Owners Club. The cartoon needed to be something personal and memorable that could be presented on the final night of the tour as a surprise.

The Creative Solution
After sending Andrew a detailed project brief questionnaire and having a Zoom consultation, we identified the perfect setting for the cartoon: the iconic Lingotto factory rooftop test track in Turin, Italy. This location was particularly meaningful because:
It was one of the stops on Steve and Pam’s organized tour
The rooftop track is instantly recognizable from the 1969 film The Italian Job
It perfectly captured the European automotive adventure theme
The cartoon shows Steve and Pam in their Aston Martin on the famous banked rooftop track, with Steve asking “Any idea how we’ll get off the roof?” and Pam replying “I’m working on it…” – a playful nod to both the unique setting and the tour organizer’s problem-solving skills.
